a crimson sunset,
casting shadows,
on a lonely forest,
bleak and louring contours,
reaching and chasing,
for the bliss of this world,
trapped in an endless void.
this time has come,
to an end...

alone and lost,
I witness the stars in the sky,
flickering in light,
fading out of sight.
Infinite blackness,
devours my soul,
shivering, yet here I stand,
on the edge,
left alone.

cold winter night,
frozen shards,
burst into the heart,
like sunbeams,
penetrating the skin.
the last glimmering light,
transformed to darkness,
this life has come,
to an end…

In the darkness of the room,
flowers wilt in gloom,
calm air constricts my breath,
pale hands hold nothing, but death,
I confess,
to be a wanderer,
harried for years on end.

NONE a opéré un virage dans Where Life Should Be et ça se confirme davantage dans Damp Chill of Life. Le temps des métaphores est révolu : l'humidité froide, c'est celle des larmes qui coulent sur le visage à cause de la dépression. Tout pleure dans cet album : les guitares typées DSBM grésillent, les solos ("The Damp Chill of Life", "It's Painless To Let Go") sont liquides et coulent, les voix prennent à la gorge ; même le piano, étranglé par les sanglots ("Cease"), est aphone. Troisième plaie béante de la saga A Fleur de Peau, une flamme pâle, qui ne brûle pas — quand la vie n'est que l'ombre d'elle-même. Le titre de ce chapitre donne le ton. Car la flamme, elle, est là : vous pouvez chercher, je ne pense pas que vous trouverez un album de funeral doom aussi intense que celui-là (peut-être même au sein des A Fleur de Peau ?), notamment grâce aux artistes qui joignent Déhà et qui viennent ajouter une splendeur incommensurable — chant féminin/masculin, saxophone... Guitars sound like flaming lava, riffs melting into one another while moving slowly across everything and destroying everything - the plaintive and bruised cries for help over it all add a weight that sinks you beneath the earth. The sound is as clear as the soul is dark. Jono Schneider
